2009
Varsity Schedule announced.

champion Cleveland St. Ignatius as well as a regional qualifier from
Columbus, Olentangy Liberty. The Polar Bears also travel to Walsh Jesuit
and Solon for key matches. Jackson will host non-league rivals Hudson and
Wadsworth as well as regional qualifier Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. The
2-time defending Federal League champions will host Hoover, GlenOak, Lake,
and Boardman at The Netz this fall as they look to play for their third
consecutive league title and 7 out of the last 8 years. The Jackson Polar Bears 2009

McCreary
and Kiaski Named All-Ohio!

Jackson
Seniors Evan McCreary and Dustin Kiaski were honored by the OSSCA as they
were named to the Div 1 all-Ohio team. McCreary was named to the first
team, while Kiaski was named to the second team. Both were 4-year starters
at Jackson and were co-MVP's of the 2008 squad. Additionally, McCreary was
named the Player of the Year in the Federal League and the Greater Akron
District while Kiaski was named the Player of the Year in Stark County.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to work and challenge
two of the best players to ever come through Jackson," commented
Jackson coach Michael Biros. "They have provided the Jackson community with
leadership, service, and spectacular highlights for the past four years!
We will sorely miss them on and off the field as they move on."
Jackson
also graduates seven other influential Bears as they leave their mark as
the most decorated class in Jackson sports history. The
2008 Polar Bears (17-2-3) captured their 6th league title in the past
seven years, won their 2nd straight district
championship, and made it to the Elite 8 before bowing out to St. Ignatius
1-0 on a penalty kick. Over the past two seasons, Jackson has won 35
matches, outscored their league opponents 81-2 (16 games), 2
district titles, and were state finalists in 2007. Senior Quebec Gibbins
graduates as a two year starter and was named to the 2nd team all-Federal
league. Evan Biedenbach, a 4-year letterwinner and
three year starter was named to the 3rd team Federal league as the
goalkeeper this season. Seniors Matthew Lawrence, Jordan
Robinson-Williams, Steve Winick, Jake Alber, and
Kolten Miller round out the class of 2009 and all
left their mark as standout players
and community leaders. According to Biros, "This group has
represented everything that is good with high school athletics. They have
earned the respect of their opponents by playing a high- quality style of
soccer and handling themselves with class on and off the field. I am very
proud of what this group has achieved and the way they have defined how a
Jackson soccer player handles themselves on and off the field to future
Bears for years to come."
The
Polar Bears will reload next year and expect more fireworks on the corner
of Fulton and Wales as they will return several multiple-year starters.
The 3-year starting Junior Derek Zuniga was named to the first team
all-district and Federal league while playing almost every position on the
field besides keeper. Junior 2-year starting defensive specialist
Greg Marchand (4 goals, 4 assists) was named to the 2nd team all-Federal
league this past season. Junior 2-year starter Jimmy Costin (7goals, 12
assists) was named to third team in the Fed as well as Junior defender
Brian Zilla returns as yet another two year starter. Danny Baraldi leads
a strong sophomore contingent as his 10 goals and 9 assists earned him 3rd
team all-Federal league. Jackson returns four other lettermen and will be
bolstered by a reserve team that won 13 games in 2008. Congratulations to
the Jackson Polar Bears for another wonderful season! Good luck to the
class of 2009 as they move on to new challenges and to the underclassmen
as they prepare for the 2009 season!
